Memphis Non-profit Program

About our founder: Halima Morafa

Halima Morafa, a current junior at Houston High school, is the founder of ArtRevival. As both an artist and activist, Halima strives to show the importance of art education and community awareness. From a young age, Halima has used art to express her views, ideas, passions, and values. However, she never saw the connection between art and communal issues until she went with her family to Nigeria in 2014. The vivid memory of seeing the problems that occurred in the third country made Halima reflect the problems in Memphis, such as hunger, crime, healthcare & racial disparity, and more. The only way she could wholeheartedly express her opinions on these problems was through art. At this moment, a spark of entrepreneurship entered her mind. Halima wanted to extend the salvation art gave her to students who were not able to receive the resources and education for visual arts. In addition, she wanted to teach community awareness and the importance of telling the world about your opinion, visually or orally. Thus ArtRevival was established. With the assistance of LITE Memphis and many partnerships, ArtRevival flourished and reached Kingsbury Middle School, where she currently has workshops. Now, Halima can expose other rising artists to the worlds of art as well and ignite Memphis problem awareness so that their visual voices can speak volumes.
