ArtRevival

Memphis Non-profit Program

Workshops:

The ArtRevival has five Saturday workshops. These workshops include many academic and educational information about civil problems that allow students to venture out and learn about the problems around them. These issues focus on these for categories: city, environment, school, and personal/other. Within this educational portion of the workshop, there are four major lessons: Community Awareness, Visual Voices, The Fundamentals of Art, and Public Speaking. With these lessons, the students establish an understanding of the arts and try to create artwork that has a personal meaning behind it. In addition, they enhance their critical thinking skills by identifying problems in their community and attempting to find solutions for them. This all occurs in the first half of the workshop.

The second half of the workshops focuses on the more creative side of the program- creating art. In the creation portion, students work with different art techniques. The primary materials they work with are pens, acrylic paints, watercolor paints, and color pencils. By having a variety of materials, the student is able to practice their art in various forms and identify the materials and techniques they like the most.

At the end of the workshop, the students are given mini sketchbook assignments and writing assignments to prepare for the next workshop, which builds on their independent skills and art skills.
